Metabolism testing
What is a Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Test?
The Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) test will let you know if your metabolism is slow, normal or fast. It also provides an accurate and scientifically-based calculation of the number of calories you burn each day while at rest, giving you the opportunity to plan your caloric intake and exercise routine for maximum results. Your metabolic rate is the efficiency with which your body converts calories into energy. Factors that affect your metabolic rate include: weight, age, body composition, hormone levels, and gender.
- An RMR test screens for a slowed metabolism, which impedes weight loss.
- An RMR test reveals changes in metabolism during the weight loss process, which may explain a frustrating plateau.
- An RMR test gives the precise caloric prescription for maintenance to help sustain ideal goal weight.
- Provides an exact number of calories you need in order to lose weight.
How is your resting metabolic rate measured?
Your resting metabolic rate is measured by using a machine called The Reevue® . The Reevue® machine measures the oxygen consumed and carbon dioxide produced by the body. This number, in turn, helps to calculate the number of calories that an individual burns at rest in a 24-hour period. This technique is called Indirect Calorimetry.
